How to look younger is a preoccupation of many as they age. We all want to look our best no matter our time of life. Whether it’s skincare routines to turn back time or TikTok hacks influencers swear keep them young, we’re all sharing our tips and tricks.
As we get older, our hair changes too. It grows slower, gets thinner, and our scalp becomes drier. Hormones can also make hair thinner. Curly or coiled tresses are especially prone to dryness.
But don’t worry, top hairstylists have shared three trendy haircuts to look younger, and tips that can help women of all ages hide these issues and highlight their best features.
Some women might be scared to try a short hairstyle because it puts your face front and centre or they’ve always had long hair. But it’s actually anti-aging style for mature women to look younger. In fact, one hair expert said a short hairdo can take decades off your age.

A pixie cut is a bold choice because it brings attention to your face and cheekbones, which “makes your face look young”, says Jean Will, a hair expert and co-founder of NiaWigs Inc. This style is also good if your hair is thinning in some areas, as the layers can be styled to cover them up.
Plus, layers add volume. If you want a light, airy look, the side-parted pixie is “the perfect cut,” according to Jean.
She even said that this style can “make over 40-year-old women look like they are in their 20s.”

Another trendy haircut is the layered wavy bob with wispy bangs.
If you have wavy or curly hair, or just want a haircut that’s easy to take care of, think about getting a bob that goes to your shoulders with some light bangs. The layers make your hair look full and move nicely, which also makes your face stand out more.
Jean said you should ask your hairstylist for a “bouncy, chin-length bob, with layers around the face.” She also said it’s good to get a fringe to cover up any spots where your hair might be thinning or where you’re losing hair at the top of your head.
The hair expert mentioned that this kind of wavy bob with gentle bangs is “perfect for women over 40” because it can cover their
forehead and any wrinkles or signs of getting older.
With this versatile chop you can part your hair down the middle or wear it off to one side, depending on the shape of your face or your mood.
When women get older, their hair can get weak and thin. A cool way to make your hair look thicker right away is to cut it in an uneven way. It’s also a nice option for for people who want to keep their hair a bit longer.
Gina Rivera, a well-known hairstylist and the person who started Phenix Salon Suites, said: “A textured asymmetrical bob creates a youthful appeal.”
Putting in layers can also “remove some of the damaged ends.” This haircut “is another terrific choice for fine hair,” the stylist shared with She Finds.
Hair color changes as we get older too, and seeing greys is often the first difference people notice about their hair when they start to age. Grey hairs happen because the part of the hair that makes color slows down. When the hair follicle can’t make melanin as we get older, hairs start to look see-through, which makes them seem grey or white.
Experimenting with color is another fun way to keep your tresses looking chic, and also great for covering up greys.
Another way to deal with aging hair is to fully embrace your greys, whether that means all-grey, silver, or salt and pepper.
